Why I don't reply to texts right away
One person refuses the modern expectation of instant responses to calls and texts, preferring the more relaxed communication culture of the late 90s and early 2000s.
The pressure of instant replies
One modern social expectation some people actively refuse is the obligation to respond immediately to missed calls or text messages. When you don't reply right away, people often assume you're either ignoring them or that something has happened to you.
Missing the old cell phone culture
This wasn't always the case. In the late 90s and early 2000s, cell phone culture operated differently. There was no expectation that you would be constantly available or that you would respond to messages instantly. People understood that you might be away from your phone or simply not in a position to reply.
The shift to always-on communication has created an unspoken rule that many find exhausting. Taking time to respond to messages is now seen as unusual or even rude, rather than simply being unavailable for a period of time.
